Inspiration
The main inspiration came from the theme. I have always loved room-escape games, so I came up with a way to integrate the genre in a spy-based theme.
What it does
The Diamond Lake Shed is essentially a room-escape game. You have to solve puzzles, find keys, unlock cupboards with said keys, and finally find a way to escape the room that you are trapped inside.
How we built it
The game runs on the Unity Engine. Scripting has been done in C#. All the sprites were created on Procreate. Sounds were taken from freesound.org.
Challenges we ran into
Making an escape game in about a day was indeed a huge challenge.
Creating every mechanism from the base up took huge amounts of patience, as I kept running into bugs everytime I updated my code.
I wanted to make the sprites myself because I wanted the game to look the way my mind envisioned it and it goes without saying that even getting the game done has been a huge challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
My biggest accomplishment is that I have made a game that I would love to play myself. It's an homage to the classic room escape games, which are very dear to me.
What we learned
I learnt a lot about scripting in Unity and a definitely improved my skills to reference documentation by several orders of magnitude.
What's next for The Diamond Lake Shed
Although I did manage to create a fully functional room-escape game, it is still far from the vision I initially had for it.
It was supposed to have multiple endings, better animations and transitions and more complex puzzles.
Future updates to the project would cater to these goals, so keep an eye out if you are interested!
