Inspiration -
I was inspired by the classic horror genre and the allure of the unknown. The idea of a haunted castle, shrouded in mystery and terror, captivated my imagination. I wanted to create a game that evoked feelings of suspense, fear, and wonder.
What it does -
The Dark Castle is a VR/Mobile adventure game where players explore a mysterious, abandoned castle. They must navigate through dark corridors, solve puzzles, and confront eerie creatures to uncover the castle's secrets. The game features a branching narrative and a haunting atmosphere.
How we built it -
I built The Dark Castle using primitives and code blocks. This provides a framework for creating VR/Mobile games, making it easy to define rooms, items, and actions. I focused on crafting a compelling story, designing challenging puzzles, and creating a creepy atmosphere through descriptive dialogue and sound effects.
Challenges we ran into -
One of the biggest challenges was balancing the difficulty of the puzzles. I wanted them to be challenging but not frustrating. I also struggled with creating a truly immersive atmosphere in a short amount of time with limited capacity. To overcome this, I experimented with different challenges for the players, used sound effects to enhance the experience, and kept an eye to the world capacity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of -
I'm proud of the game's intricate storyline. I also believe I successfully created a haunting atmosphere that draws players in. The game's puzzles are challenging but fair, providing a satisfying sense of accomplishment when solved.
What we learned -
Through building The Dark Castle, I learned the importance of storytelling in game design. A well-crafted narrative can elevate a game and keep players engaged. I also gained experience in using the NPC’s and learned how to create immersive experiences in a VR/Mobile format.
What's next for The Dark Castle -
I plan to continue developing The Dark Castle by adding new features, such as additional puzzles, storylines, and character interactions. I also want to improve the game's visuals and sound effects to create an even more immersive experience. Ultimately, I hope to release The Dark Castle as a fully-fledged game, available to players on multiple platforms.
