Inspiration
We were inspired by Jared Lera's simple but effective login system on Qoom. It just right off the bat gave us the idea to create a "choose your own path" storyline after we saw all the cool things that we could create using it.
What it does
It's a story where you get to make your own decisions that can help or harm you. At the end of each small passage, you get to make a choice on how to proceed with the story and the outcome and storyline will differ depending on the decision you make.
How we built it
We used Qoom to do all the editing for the website. More specifically, we used the reference tags to navigate sites and used those for each choice. We also created the story on a separate site and wrote all of the different possible paths the story could take first. Then we broke that up into different pages added all the detail last.
Challenges we ran into
We had so many ideas and options that it was hard to choose which was a big challenge. Also, just the coding and tags in general were somewhat of a challenge at first but it didn't take long for us to get the hang of it. Overall I think everything went pretty smoothly for the most part and we were able to overcome the challenges so that they didn't hold us back.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a cohesive story and just overall make a functional website. We're especially proud that we were able to make the site redirect to a different page with every click and choice made in the story. And lastly, we are of course that we were able to actually finish the project!!
What we learned
We mainly learned how to use Qoom and just become better at using tags and learning about different tools available. We also learned how to code more confidently and fluidly.
What's next for The Danger In The Forest
We hope to take the skills we learned and gained from creating Danger in The Forest and apply them to any and every other coding related project we do. We also hope to improve the site in the future and build upon it.
