Many children get pushed into a certain direction regarding job opportunities from a very early age. Boys play with cars and girls play with dolls. This leads to the fact that many children pursue career paths based on their upbringing rather than based on their talents.

What it does

This robot software is meant to close the gender gap with children between 10 and 14 years. It asks logical questions, plays games and thus finds hidden talent in the children it interacts with. In the end it provides information on job possibilities which is meant to widen the children's horizon to the possibilities they are talented for. This will also benefit the economy, because we can be more efficient as a society if the right people do the right jobs.

How we built it

We used Python embedded in the provided development environment to develop the human - robot interaction. We combined this interactive solution with modern web technologies in order to provide an excellent user experience. In the backend, we used Python and JavaScript, and in the frontend Angular and Android.

Challenges we ran into

The robot SDK and its corresponding development environment was completely unfamiliar to us and it was a challenge to integrate the robot backend with our web solutions. Thankfully, we had help from the competent employees of Avatarion.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud that we were so successful in combining the different technologies in order to build a fully functioning prototype. But what might be even more important, we are proud to offer a solution that will help future generations to discover their real possibilities and to help increase the diversity in many professions in our society.

What we learned

We learned to work in an agile way with constant feedback loops, so that we are able to hand in a functioning prototype. We had a simple version in the beginning and added functionality incrementally. Also, once again, we learned to be patient when things just don't work. Last but not least: sleeping is for muggles :-)

What's next for The Cute Talent Finder

We want to go beyond a prototype and actually implement a fully working project with real talent detection. In order to tailer the user experience to the children's needs, we would do user tests before making it available for the public.
