Inspiration

The Conclave was inspired by the timeless ritual of a papal election — a ceremony where silence, symbolism, and destiny converge. I wanted to explore what happens when a tradition that has remained unchanged for centuries collides with the disruptive force of modernity. The film became a meditation on faith, power, and transformation, reframed through the lens of artificial intelligence.

What it does

The film immerses the audience in the solemn atmosphere of an ancient ritual while gradually revealing a hidden tension beneath the surface. With a blend of thriller energy, sacred aesthetics, and subtle sci-fi undertones, it creates a cinematic experience that is both familiar and uncanny.

How we built it

Concept & Script: sketched around atmosphere and symbolic gestures rather than dialogue. Wrote the prompts with the help of ChatGPT. Visual Generation: used MIdjourney AI image model to design characters, costumes, and spaces with Caravaggio style chiaroscuro lighting. Video Creation: employed AI video platforms Kling, Veo3 and Midjourney to animate sequences with camera movements. Post-Production: assembled and graded in iMovie for narrative flow and visual unity. Sound Design: blended AI-generated chants and drones with Suno made soundtrack and manually edited samples to build a resonant, immersive soundscape.

Challenges we ran into

Character consistency: AI outputs often altered faces and attire across shots. Solved through “anchor frames” and prompt iteration. Motion stability: early generations felt mechanical; fine-tuned prompts achieved natural cinematic movement. Lip sync: some outputs were not professional. Color variation: outputs shifted palettes unpredictably; manual grading unified the film’s tone. Audio depth: AI sound was sterile; layering organic samples gave it life and resonance.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completed a fully AI-assisted short film with cinematic realism and strong narrative cohesion. Successfully integrated experimental AI workflows into a professional post-production pipeline. Created a unique artistic voice that bridges heritage and innovation, sparking dialogue on the future of cinema.

What we learned

AI is not a predictable tool but a creative partner. It requires patience, iteration, and openness to serendipity. Each failed generation led to new discoveries, reminding me that true artistry lies not in control but in guidance and adaptation.

The journey continues with festival submissions, expanded screenings, and expanding the narrative universe with more episodes. Future iterations may evolve into a larger series exploring rituals, spirituality, and the tension between ancient wisdom and technological futures.
