Inspiration

Residential areas and condominium boards constantly struggle with chaotic communication—scattered WhatsApp groups, endless arguments, and zero concrete decisions. We were inspired to build a structured, reliable digital operating system to bring real order, transparency, and accountability to residential communities.

What it does

The Community's To-Do is a full-stack web platform that organizes a residential community into hierarchical levels: sectors, towers, and apartments. It allows neighbors and leaders to:

  • Post verified announcements and manage discussions with built-in spam protection (cooldowns).
  • Report rule-breakers through an automated consensus system.
  • Coordinate and vote on community tasks within specific Zones of Action (ZAs).

How we built it

Built as a monorepo utilizing Bun, TypeScript, Express, Prisma, PostgreSQL, and Vite. The architecture features strict role-based access control (from global leaders to residents) enforced at both the API and database layers. The entire project was designed and driven by a solo developer acting as the lead architect and auditor, leveraging AI to rapidly scaffold and write code efficiently, while strictly reviewing, auditing, and correcting every single component to ensure production-grade quality.

Challenges we ran into

Working under extreme time pressure and tight deadlines (facing intense crunch hours), we had to overcome complex architectural hurdles, strict database permission logic, and monorepo deployment configurations. Balancing advanced features ("over-engineering") against a strict hackathon timeline was a constant test of focus and resilience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of building a fully functional, robust, and production-ready community operating system completely from scratch under intense pressure. Creating a tool that solves a real-world problem and can actually be deployed in real residential buildings is our biggest win.

What we learned

We mastered the art of working efficiently under high-pressure deadlines, organizing complex workflows, and harnessing AI as a powerful coding assistant backed by rigorous human auditing and code review.

What's next for The Community's To-Do

Next up, we plan to test and deploy the platform live in our own residential community, gather user feedback, and roll out advanced notification features and mobile-friendly enhancements.
