Inspiration
When I saw the prompt for the challenge I thought about a lot of solutions I could make - resource collectors , mentor mentee meeting sites but I knew these were already out there. While scrolling on social media I have often come across food content and seen people describing their experiences of bonding over food. As a college student myself one thing me and my friends bond over and talk is food. Good food can be very helpful in getting people through college. This was my inspiration.
What it does
It provides a recipe book especially made keeping students in mind. These are short recipes with affordable ingredients. It creates a platform for college students where they can feel at home.
How we built it
I built this website using HTML, SCSS, JS and JQuery.
Challenges we ran into
Since I am a college student currently I didn't have a lot of time on my hands. I would usually work on this project a couple of hours before my classes started or at night. Because of the time constraint I couldn't expand my website as much as I wanted to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am quite proud of getting this project done and making a submission and my idea. This was also my first time hosting a multi page website online so I had to do a lot of research. I have never made a video before so I was very intimidated by that. I initially wanted to go for the pitching round because I didn't have enough time to give this website the justice it deserved but now that I am done with this I am quite happy with whatever I have done.
What we learned
Working under a lot of pressure, doing hackathons - this is my second hackathon. Hosting a website online. Making a video, writing a README File. Pitching my idea at a hackathon, having confidence in myself. Making a USER GUIDE.
What's next for The College Kitchen
For the hackathon I could only add a couple of recipes because I wanted to test this out. I do want to create a fully fledged website which hosts 100+ recipes from several cultures which can be made in a short time. I also want to create blog content relating food and mental health together and create a community forum for people to connect over food.
