What it does
THE CHAT MUSEUM
The living museum of Twitch communities.
Inspiration
Twitch chat moves incredibly fast. A hilarious message, an unforgettable community reaction, or a moment that brings an entire stream together can disappear in seconds as new messages take over.
We wanted to give those moments a place to live beyond the stream.
The Chat Museum transforms memorable Twitch chat messages into digital museum exhibits, preserving the moments that make each streaming community special.
What it does
The Chat Museum connects to a broadcaster's Twitch channel and listens to real-time chat messages through Twitch EventSub.
It gives streamers and community curators a way to preserve meaningful messages as permanent, curator-approved digital artifacts.
The experience includes:
- Live Twitch integration: Authenticate a Twitch account and receive real channel chat messages.
- Curator console: View the live transcript and select messages worth preserving.
- Artifact nomination: Add a title, story, and category to a selected message.
- Curator approval: Keep nominations pending until they are explicitly approved and published.
- Digital museum gallery: Display published artifacts as individual exhibits.
- Persistent storage: Save real message snapshots and associated Twitch identifiers in SQLite.
- Separate demo collection: Clearly distinguish illustrative demo exhibits from authentic Twitch messages.
How we built it
We built The Chat Museum using OpenAI Codex as our development partner throughout the project.
Codex helped us develop the application structure, frontend components, backend APIs, Twitch OAuth integration, EventSub WebSocket handling, SQLite artifact persistence, and curator publishing workflow.
We used an iterative development approach: implementing features, testing actual Twitch connectivity, investigating integration issues, and refining the application based on build and verification results.
Technology stack

What makes it special
The Chat Museum is not another live chat viewer. It is a preservation experience for streaming communities.
Instead of letting every memorable moment disappear into the transcript, it gives the community a way to turn selected messages into curated exhibits.
Each published artifact preserves its original message and available Twitch metadata, connecting the exhibit to the moment it came from.
What's next
We envision The Chat Museum growing into a collection of community memories across Twitch channels, with richer curator tools, community nominations, recognition systems, and ways to explore the history of a streaming community.
The stream ends. The memories stay.
