The Chase – Savanna. Survival. Symphony.
Inspiration
- Tom & Jerry – “The Cat Concerto”
- The Lion King
- Real wildlife documentaries (leopard–gazelle)
- Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Diego’s chase)
What it does
- A survival Gen-AI short: Leopard vs. Thomson’s gazelle across the savanna of Masai Mara, synced to orchestral rhythm.
How I built it
- Base Images: Google Nano-Banana + Seedream 4 (Freepik AI Suite)
- Video: Hailuo 02 + Kling 2.1/2.5 Pro Turbo (Freepik AI Suite) + LumaLabs Ray 3
- Retouch: Photoshop
- SFX: ElevenLabs SFX v2
- Music: Re-created & mastered Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2” in Suno
- Edit/Grade: Premiere Pro
Challenges I ran into
- Species differentiation (cheetah/leopard/jaguar; gazelle/deer/antelope)
- Auto-grade drift across clips
- Shot stitching: frame-by-frame continuity
- Motion physics & environmental realism
Accomplishments I’m proud of
- My first ideated, generated, and directed short film—made solo in 5 days end-to-end.
- Cohesive, non-verbal storytelling with stable continuity
- A reusable solo Gen-AI pipeline
What I learned
- Color-managed workflow (neutral/log base, WB ~5600K, Rec.709) + one scene look
- Taxonomy/species cue kit in prompts prevents identity drift
- Lock ambience beds early; scopes before style
What’s next
- Sequel ideation
- Iterative improvements for a more immersive cut
