Chord presser housing. Held by a capo.
-
Pedal layout. Contains 4 of the most popular open chords used in hundreds of songs.
-
The pedal uses a rotating hinge to convert downward force into a pulling force on the Bowden cable.
-
Tension in the Bowden cable pulls the chord pressers downward, applying force to the fretboard in the corresponding chord shape.

Full assembly (imagine the wires are connected lol)

Inspired Chord Layout
We were inspired by guitar pedals, video game controllers, and bicycle braking systems. Our innovation provides access to several common chords for motor-disabled guitar players without them needing to press their fingers into the neck. CAD'd in SolidWorks and presented in Canva. We used ChatGPT, Claude AI, and Gemini to develop initial ideas for the challenge, though the end product was entirely human-made. We experienced some difficulty with the CAD file in the form of allowing flexing/bending with the materials, as was necessary for the linkages, though we overcame this and eventually improved our skills for it.
