We looked at the entire list of datasets and then iteratively removed the datasets that were not interesting to us or not relevant to the topic that we were slowly narrowing it on. This took us a while since we wanted to do something geospatial and oceanographic data is pretty complex.
The ocean is beautiful and mesmerizing but it is also very complex and messy.
The argo data was 1.5 gigs and took an hour to download and then unzipping to the full 10 GB took 3 hours. There were issues with git conflicts when multiple people were updating the dashboard.
A major accomplishment for all teammates was the different ways we learned to visualize the relationships and patterns and design the data model.
Challenges we met were simply overwhelmed with the possibilities and datasets we were given, we spent a long time thoroughly combing through each link and dataset in order to discover data where we felt could be impactful to analyze.
