🌟 Inspiration

The BronxBoard was inspired by the pressing social issues facing the youth of the Bronx, such as high teen pregnancy rates, gaps in civic education 📚, and the increasing influence of gangs 🚫. We recognized that these challenges stem from deeper issues like socioeconomic disparities, lack of parental and community support, and limited access to quality learning resources. Our vision was to create a platform that addresses these root causes by empowering Bronx youth with knowledge, life skills, and a positive sense of community 🌱.

🚀 What it does

The BronxBoard is an accredited, community-focused Learning Management System (LMS) that offers courses on civic education, life skills, and personal development 🧠. It harnesses the power of AI 🤖 to provide dynamic learning experiences tailored to each student. Key features include AI-generated quizzes, AI-evaluated answers, a wealth of skill and welfare resources, and daily email news updates 📰 that keep users engaged and informed. By fostering a sense of belonging and purpose, The BronxBoard aims to counter gang influence, boost civic engagement, and help reduce teen pregnancy rates.

🛠️ How we built it

The BronxBoard was built as a full-stack application:

  • Backend: Django with Python 🐍, providing secure APIs and a robust learning management system.
  • Frontend: A modern JavaScript framework (like React ⚛️), ensuring a dynamic and user-friendly interface.
  • AI Integration: We utilized LLaMA 4 via Groq to power an AI agent that generates quizzes, evaluates answers, and add lessons in daily email News.
  • News API: For daily email updates about Bronx news and suggested learning topics, we integrated The News API.

We focused on making it modular and scalable, ensuring smooth integration into local schools and institutions 🏫.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

One of the major challenges was understanding the root causes of these social issues and translating them into actionable learning content 📖. Another key challenge was aligning our solution with local educational authorities to ensure accreditation and recognition ✅.
