Inspiration

While brainstorming for our project, we wanted to combine the arcade theme of the hackathon with the challenge of including neurotech to create a simple website that can provide engaging online activities that can intellectually stimulate the user. One of our teammates has a family member with Alzheimers and confirmed that memory testing games such as the one on our website is an effective way their family member tests their memory retention. We believe that our website can help lower the risk of cognitive decline for patients with Alzheimers and Dementia.

What it does

This project, which currently only has one matching game, is intended to provide multiple memory/intellectually stimulating activities that will test and improve the memory retention of the user. The point system provides the user with a gauge of how long they have been playing a game.

How we built it

We built the website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We took the help of online web tutorials, documentation, and other online resources.

Challenges we ran into

Going into this hackathon, we had limited knowledge on front and back-end development. We took the time to try to understand basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create and design the website through various online resources.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our proudest accomplishment is creating the memory matching game, which had a relatively smooth ui and took a lot of trial and error to develop.

What we learned

While we our website wasn't complete, we had spent a lot of our time understanding how front-end and back-end development works. We learned the syntax of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and how the files work together, including manipulating the styling and function of the website components.

What's next for The Brain Trainer

We want to include more memory games/intellectually stimulating activities such as word games and other matching games which can train different parts of the brain. We also want to include a feature where the user can upload pictures of loved ones to the website for the matching games or include personalized words for the word games. We also want to include a reward system, such as points which can go to an online shop. The user can customize an avatar with this online shop, which we believe can be engaging and creative to further the user's intellectual stimulation.
