Firstly, we want to create something that increases accessibility in the home gardening industry. By automating the watering and monitoring of house plants people who normally wouldn't be able to take care of plants are able to have them in their homes. A few examples of people who would benefit from this project are professionals who travel frequently, people with physical disabilities, people with dementia or just the average person who wants to have house plants but doesn’t have the time to take care of them.
Secondly, we wanted to explore the growing industry of automated agriculture. The agriculture industry in America represents around 5 percent of GDP. One of the fastest growing segments within the agriculture industry is automation. While most of this automation is focused towards large farming operations we wanted to take this technology and see if we could apply it to domestic consumers.
