Inspiration
In today’s digital age, social media consumption has crossed healthy limits, turning into a screen addiction for millions. People spend hours scrolling through endless feeds, missing out on real-life moments, genuine human connections, and outdoors adventures.
I built The Boon to solve this exact problem. The goal was simple yet powerful: help people break free from screen addiction not by forcing them off their phones, but by inspiring them to step out and engage in Real-Life Adventures—from nature exploration and creative learning to community connections and mindfulness.
What it does
The Boon acts as a bridge between the digital world and real-life experiences:
- Reduces Screen Time: Keeps track of usage and gently nudges users away from addictive social apps.
- Real-Life Adventure Modules: Replaces scrolling time with engaging real-world activities such as hiking, learning new creative skills, joining local events, and practicing mindfulness.
- Achievement & Rewards System: Rewards users for accomplishing offline real-life tasks, helping them build healthier habits.
How we built it
- Utilized Google AI Studio and Gemini API to rapidly prototype, design the app structure, and generate intelligent logic for real-life adventure recommendations.
- Designed an intuitive and clean user interface tailored for young adults and professionals seeking digital balance.
- Integrated feature modules focusing on activity categories: Nature & Trails, Creative Learning, Community Events, and Mindfulness.
- Structured interactive habit-tracking tools to turn offline activities into rewarding achievements.

Challenges we faced
- Balancing Engagement vs. Screen Time: Creating an app experience that engages users enough to motivate them, without encouraging more screen dependency.
- Designing Authentic Real-Life Tasks: Structuring outdoor and offline tasks so they feel exciting, actionable, and suitable for different lifestyles.
What we learned
- Behavioral Psychology: Understood how dopamine loops in social media work and how positive offline reinforcement can replace digital addiction.
- User-Centric Design: Learned how to present offline lifestyle alternatives in a clean, non-intrusive, and encouraging visual style.
