Inspiration

Inspired by some posts on X (Twitter), I wanted to use AI to create a short film depicting the process of planet formation, to see if it could be done.

What it does

This is an AI documentary short film that showcases the complete evolutionary process of a planet from birth to formation through stunning cosmic visual effects and scientifically rigorous narrative techniques.

The film tells its story in a scene-driven manner, presenting the grandeur of cosmic creation through realistic astrophysical phenomena - including nebulae, stellar accretion disks, protoplanetary formation, and gravitational interactions.

This short film condenses the cosmic miracle spanning millions of years into around two minutes, making it both educational and visually spectacular.

How we built it

Through a question-and-answer dialogue with AI, I had the AI generate text about planetary formation.

I then used Seedream 4.0 to generate most of the storyboard frames, with some frames modified using Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image). Video generation was primarily done using the Seedance 1.0 Pro model, with a small number of shots using the Hailuo 2.3 model. Voiceover was created using ElevenLabs. The musical score was generated using Suno, with the music composition synchronized to match the atmosphere of the content.

Challenges we ran into

The process of planetary formation is a phenomenon that no one has witnessed firsthand, so during the storyboarding process, it's necessary to maintain a certain balance between imagination, realism, and stylization.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Using the Seedream and Seedance models during the production process successfully maintained a good balance between imagination, realism, and stylization.

What we learned

AI is particularly well-suited for producing knowledge-based educational content that requires strong logical structure and organization.
