Inspiration

The idea for The Best Out There (TBOT) came from our own lives. One weekend, one of us spent nearly an hour trying to find the right movie to watch with our 4-year-old, more time searching than enjoying. And we realized: we’ve all been there.

Whether it was parenting, learning, building, or just trying to grow, we were wasting time digging through endless options. We wanted a way to save and access the best the world has to offer—fast.

What it does

TBOT is a curation platform that helps people navigate their life stage and instantly find high-quality resources.

Each user can:

  • Explore curated kits by life role
  • Upvote and share useful content
  • Build and remix their own kits

Our goal: reduce noise, save time, and surface only what’s truly great.

How we built it

We used Bolt.new to structure the UI fast and Supabase for:

  • Authentication
  • Data storage
  • Kit logic

We curated content using LLMs and personal research. Once Bolt hit its limits, we shifted to GitHub for more flexibility and scale.

Challenges

  1. Bolt’s prompt constraints limited long-form content
  2. Ensuring a smooth experience with large volumes of curated content
  3. Balancing minimalist design with rich, meaningful interaction

Accomplishments

  • Built a mobile-first MVP in a short time
  • Designed a clean, scalable content framework
  • Delivered a smooth user experience without sacrificing depth
  • Created a foundation for community-powered curation

What we learned

  1. Designing for simplicity requires constant iteration
  2. Great curation combines structure, context, and taste

What’s next

  • Community features: follow curators, remix kits, collaborate
  • Voice agents for kits using ElevenLabs
  • Smarter discovery through AI recommendations
  • Continued expansion of roles, kits, and curated sections

We’re building TBOT to be the go-to destination for curated, high-quality discovery, built by the community, for the community.
