Inspiration
This project was inspired by the juxtaposition of modern emotional trauma with classic mythic storytelling. We explored the idea that the deepest contemporary pain—such as being "ghosted" or emotionally abandoned—can be the catalyst for immense power. The film asks: What if personal betrayal is the true origin story of a monarch?
What it does
"The Beaver Queen" is a short, surreal fantasy that allegorically details a monarch's rise to power. It explores the metaphor of emotional abandonment as a forging force, using the Beaver Queen's solemn yet magnificent reign as a symbol of self-made authority and resilience born from isolation.
How we built it
This animation was an early stage experimental project utilizing accessible generative tools:
Visual Generation: All animated sequences were created using Veo3. We heavily focused on generating sequences using different angles and backdrops to make the final film visually appealing and cinematic.
Narration: The distinctive voice for the film was generated using ElevenLabs, specifically choosing a female voice with a British accent to lend authority and a classic fable tone to the narration.
Challenges we ran into
As an early stage AI film making project, the primary challenges centered on experimental cohesion:
Visual Consistency: Maintaining the consistent look of the Queen's crown, face, and ornate royal attire was difficult across the different angles and backdrops we tested with Veo3.
Environment Fidelity: Generating highly detailed water and dam structures that felt both fantastical and structurally sound required extensive refinement in prompting the early model.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
We learned the importance of prompt engineering when experimenting with different cinematic angles in early generative models like Veo3, understanding how to balance visual appeal with character consistency. The project successfully refined our ability to generate custom royal attire and highly detailed natural environments.
