Inspiration
Our inspiration is from a team member's personal experience. She has encountered a friend who treated her poorly. It was not only her who had been hurt by that friend, but there were also others who had been around him who experienced the same. However, one day, she happened to see him with cats, and it amazed her how caring he looks when cats are around. Out of curiosity, she asked him about his love for cats. Strangely, he expressed his compassion for cats in a way he has never done towards human beings. This led us to creating this application.
What it does
Our application helps users become more considerate of others. There are two parts of the application; the first part provides tasks for users to do in real life. Those tasks are acts of kindness to perform to the users’ loved ones. The mission is in the form of a checklist, and once you check the box, the pet will become happier. However, if the day ends and the boxes are left unchecked, your pet will become sadder. The second part of the app provides situations involving mental health or giving mental support. There will be a question asking what to do in a certain situation for example, “What would you say to a friend who is crying?” The users have to choose the best answer from the multiple choices provided. The application also includes simulated pets which represent human beings’ mental states. If the user performs acts of kindness, it will improve the pets’ mental health. In the meantime, if the users chose the wrong answer for part two of the application, their pets’ mental well-being might decline. There will also be levels for the users to try and pass through. All of that is to encourage others to think of their action and its consequences for the better mental health of their loved ones. Once the users have done those tasks, simulated pets in the application would have a better mental state.
How we built it
We can build it by using HTML ,CSS and C language programming.
- By inputting the email and password, the system will remember those.
- If you finish one of the missions we gave, the screen will show that your pet is happy.
- About the challenges, we will random the date and time that you have to answer the questions. If you choose the wrong answer, your pet, as a representative of a human being, will be sad.
Challenges we ran into
At first, the ideas we thought of were the same as the existing applications today. We found it a little difficult to come up with a new solution that has not been done before. However, in the end, we brainstormed ideas and were able to come up with The Bangkok Pet Club. Another significant challenge we encountered is that we are living in a different time zone, 14 hours ahead, so we had to hack at night.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Since this hackathon is our team’s very first time hacking, we are very proud that we could complete the process and were able to deliver the ideas we have come up with. Although we are in different time zones and we are 14 hours ahead, we were able to participate in the event and had a lot of fun hacking at midnight! Lastly, we are most proud of the ideas we were able to come up with during this short amount of time.
What we learned
We learned about an efficient way to pitch, as well as about entrepreneurship. We learned a lot about mental health through research, and how to work together as a team. We got to improve our presentation, communication, and problem-solving skills through creating our product.
What's next for The Bangkok Pet Club
We are looking forward to developing our ideas into an actual application. Then we will contact schools in our local community to test our application out. Once our application is fully developed and ready for the public, we will further spread our application by contacting bigger organizations and promoting on social media platforms.
