Inspiration
We were definitely inspired by existing social media platforms such as Twitter, but wanted to put our own twist on it by implementing the emotions feature (e.g., “Feeling: Sad”). We also took inspiration from a fictional app that was mentioned in the television series Victorious.
What it does
The Babble is a mobile app that lets users create a profile, direct message, post content, and search for other users or popular posts.
How we built it
We used React Native to code and Figma to model our app!
Challenges we ran into
Since none of us are expert programmers or engineers, we definitely had a hard time starting out using React Native and coding in Javascript! However, once we got going, we realized that it wasn’t as complex as we were making it out to be and ended up with a finished product that we’re very proud of!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Although none of us are engineers, we were proud to make our app slightly functional with buttons and have the ability to navigate to different pages of our app.
What we learned
We are also proud to have learned React Native, a software that none of us have used before. We are also proud of improving our Javascript skills and working as a team to create a project we’re all proud of.
What's next for The Babble
We believe we’ve just hit the tip of the iceberg with what we’ve created during LA Hacks. We would love for The Babble to become a fully-functional app that could be widely-used by the public! Working on the implementation of different features and opening up our team to more members to create an exciting, finished product would be what our focus will be shifting to!
