Inspiration

While discussing with each other about what we wanted to do, we both immediately thought of one thing: space. We decided that many people are interested in the mysteries of space and what lies beyond our floating rock. We decided that a website to provide information to those interested in space would be a good project to pursue.

What it does

Our website provides the user with various information about space. This information is the photo of the day and explanation of it, 6 pictures of Mars from various rovers, and a list of near-Earth objects with a statement if they're hazardous to the Earth or not.

How we built it

We used a CSS, HTML, and JS template from Replit in order to create out website. We used a combination of tutorials, educational articles, and old project references to overcome any challenges and answer any questions that we had.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main issues was something that seems to be a major joke within the web dev community. It came with centering certain elements within our HTML file. We had to mess with this a lot in order to fix it. Ultimately, there is one element which is off center from what we saw, but it's not very noticeable. We will be looking to format this correctly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the overall site. We have never made something like this before with API's, effects, and different elements and we're proud to have created this project. Although we're proud of what we've made, we're not finished with it and will continue to develop it.

What we learned

We learned a lot more about how to format various items in HMTL and CSS. We also learned how to create various effects with our elements, such as the hover effects on both the navigation menu and the photo of the day.

What's next for The Astronomy Times

Update the overall look and add some more information from the NASA API. We would like to keep working on and developing this project until we feel satisfied with how it looks and the information it provides. One of the additions we're thinking of, for example, is a photo gallery of Mars rover images.
