Inspiration
The harsh reality of a creator and sometimes what it can feel like to be a creator in the world right now. With all the monetary necessities and lack of true free expression, it's becoming harder for art to flourish as art rather than as means to survival.
What it does
It should take the user on a comfy interactive experience that allows them to experience what it may be like to feel creators block and dealing with life's struggles as a creator. Overall, it's a fun game and maybe it can inspire someone to continue to do what they want to do.
How we built it
We used VS Community and our own knowledge of C syntax. It was made with Linked lists to store the main components of the game 'Inspiration'. We built the program and wrote out the story, later debugging and testing the game itself to enhance user experience.
Challenges we ran into
There were many challenge trying to integrate each teammate's coding style. The naming for different structures and variables ran into some challenges when we integrating all our work together. There were many bugs at first but slowly they were flushed out and polished into a great experience. We were also extremely tired and the lack of sleep slowed much of the process of development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to accomplish this plan and design of ours after failing 2 other initial plans that we had. To be honest, this was the plan C for the hackathon. Taking our other failures into account, we decided we could turn out this project by the end of the hackathon and went for it. We have surprisingly taken a back up and formed it into something that we can be proud of. Our teamwork and bond is definitely something that was built and formed over this period of time.
What we learned
We learned a lot in respect to designing and processing that design onto a project. With 2 initial failures to our plans, we've learned that it can be helpful to diverge and start something else to achieve our desired goal. We learned some valuable skills when working with other people's coding styles and naming styles. It's refreshing to be able to read and integrate so easily with someone else's work.
What's next for The Artist
We hope that the game will inspire people to create or become a comfortable sit down and relax game. We hope to expand the game's setting, taking more environments and scenarios into account. Different gamemodes like a direct storyline or other characters are also part of the plans made. If possible we want to expand into AI api as well as multiplayer or local co-op hosting. We want as many people as possible to explore and have fun with this project.
