Inspiration

I initially made this game when I was in highschool but never finished it, but then made significant changes to submit it to the hackathon.

This game was inspired by the likes of old school rpgs from the SNES era like final fantasy. It also has elements from visual novel games mixed in. You navigate through areas through a menu system and battle through a turn based old school rpg battle system.

The game does have a plot even though it is incomplete. I hope you find it interesting to play through.

How I built it

It was built using Python and pygame.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I made an easy to use 'Sequences' system which is basically a pseudo scripting 'language' that allows me to script events that occur during battles and is easily editable by people.

What we learned

I learned a lot about programming and optimization when I first made this game. I also learned the importance of documentation and clean code thanks to my old self being really bad at that 😂

What's next for The Arena

I hope to finish the game one day, but I just don't have enough time. This hackathon did make me revisit it though so I am grateful for that.
