Inspiration
We had a lot of cardboard. And I mean, a lot. From what may have been unboxing pool tables, and other pieces.
What it does
The Arcade has a screen inside of the classic arcade cabinet form factor, complete with a joystick and buttons to interact with the game. Use the joystick to move your character to pass through three pixellated levels with opponents, puzzles and mazes.
How we built it
We decided to build this with pure anarchy in mind. This meant the HTML Canvas API and raw JavaScript (just like in the 2000s) with no imports, libraries or frameworks.
Challenges we ran into
Fitting laptops into a small form factor, the whole JavaScript unintuitivity, and more!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making a whole arcade machine, missing team members, making a full retro game with only 2 programmers.
What we learned
Tons of HTML Canvas stuff, code optimisation, surviving the weirdest JavaScript niche errors and syntax!
What's next for The Arcade
More games!
