Inspiration
We were inspired by a lack of fun academic trackers. We wanted one that was motivating and fun!
What it does
The tracker is able to create a list of tasks, a weekly calendar, and calculate the user’s GPA. For every task completed, the site adds currency to the user’s account so they can purchase fish for an aquarium.
How we built it
We hand-drew the fish, background, and other assets. Then, we used Figma to put our designs together. We used Claude to help us with coding, as well as learning how to code the website.
Challenges we ran into
This was our first hackathon, and we didn’t know which platforms or languages to use for our sites. So, initially, we weren’t sure how to code the backend of the website or make the frontend and backend links.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to learn how to use Figma, code displays, and link the frontend and backend. This allows user personalization, so the site can truly help the user stay motivated to finish their tasks and stay on top of their schedule.
What we learned
We learned the basics of HTML, Javascript, CSS, and we also learned how to use Figma! With the knowledge gained from this experience, we all feel inspired to work on more projects with Figma and learning more about HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
What's next for The Aquarium Tracker
We would love to go more in depth in learning the backend coding— especially Javascript and CSS— to be able to develop other such platforms. Something else we’re interested in is learning how to let notifications and reminders from the app be seen on the user’s home screen.
