Inspiration

As a sound designer, I wanted to build something where sound was the main focus. I’ve always been fascinated by how animals sound, especially the ones we don’t usually hear. Most people know what cats and dogs sound like, but animals like penguins and peacocks have such unique and unexpected voices that inspired me to create The Animal Museum.

What it does

The Animal Museum lets players explore a museum filled with animals and their sounds. By stepping on interactive pressure plates, players can hear the sound each animal makes. The plates can also be picked up and moved, creating fun and surprising combinations like hearing a dragon roar when you expect a frog.

How I built it

I used the generative AI tools in the Horizon Worlds editor to create LEGO-style 3D models of animals, the art 3D models and to help generate the code for the sound-triggering pressure plates. The sounds were carefully selected and designed to match both real and fantasy creatures. I also used a texture for the floor and walls that were in the shared folder.

Challenges I ran into

I tried to create a scoring system where players could match sounds (pressure plates) to the correct animals, but I couldn’t get it to work properly yet.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I’m proud of how the sounds and visuals come together to create a playful and educational experience. It’s exciting to see players discover new animal sounds and experiment with how they interact.

What I learned

I learned a lot about using generative AI inside Horizon Worlds, both for modeling and for coding interactive elements.

What's next for The Animal Museum

In future updates, I plan to add the scoring system and include more exotic and fantasy animals with unique, custom-designed sounds. Also I want to gamify it more so let's say you and your friends play together, there might be a competition where everyone has to match the sound to an animal and there is a leaderboard. I want to make the experience even more interactive, fun, and full of surprises.
