Inspiration

We were inspired to do this project because we all currently live in Seattle, and we want to know what's going on with these incidents, because they can be prevalent within our lives.

What it does

This project analyzes this data and presents it in a way that the general audience can see whats happening within the SPD with use of force.

How we built it

We built up this project by working together to use libraries like pandas to do data processing on CSV files that we found using the Seattle Open Database program, and we scoured it for Use of Force files that we could analyze. We then ran our processed data through StatsModels as well as GeoPandas to create visible graphs and plots that we could then read off of.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many challenges trying to test our programs because we didn't know how to at first, and we also ran into many issues with trying to process our data because we didn't know at first how difficult it was to work with the data that we got.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to actually use the data that we found using the Seattle Open Database program because we weren't sure if we were going to be able to use all of it because it was so messed up at times.

What we learned

We learned how to use a new library called StatsModels to create linear regression models about some parts of our data, and we also learned how to compile multiple different python files from different people together.

What's next for The Analysis of Use of Force within the SPD

For the future of our project, we want to find and use more in-depth datasets as well are more prevalent information to analyze this to a deeper extent. We also want to use different regression models to figure out what exactly the relationship is to the Use of Force within the SPD with other different variables than just time.
