The inspiration for the game came from a VR game called “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes”. We wanted to make a VR game that requires communication between two players to reach a goal. In both games, the player with the Oculus Rift on has information that the player outside does not have, and vice versa. The two must work together to achieve a common goal.

What it does

This is a two-player VR game. Your objective is to maneuver the maze without getting bit by the evil dogs! The maze runner has a limited first-person view, so it is up to the help to guide the runner to the end of the maze. The helper has a bird’s-eye view of the maze, but has to be careful not to lead the runner into a dead end, because only the runner sees the dogs!!

How we built it

We used Blender to design most of our models in our game. Then, we used Unity, Steam VR, Oculus APIs to integrate these models into a VR game. Our hardware consisted of Oculus Rift, our laptops and one heavy-lifting game box.

Challenges we ran into

Most of our team didn't have any experience with Unity or VR game development before. The most challenging part was to learn the tools we got to work with.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We came with little knowledge of VR game development; we walked out with a working VR game.

What we learned

We learned the basics of VR game development. This included the general development process and tools (Blender, Unity, VR).

What's next for The Amazing Maze VR

Right now, the maze is static. Also, more improvements can be added, such as keys, doors, rewards & trapdoors to make the game more challenging. The graphics of the game can be enhanced as well.
