Inspiration
Our inspiration is based off of our team member's solution to memorizing content from a high school course. Our team member, Thulashini, had taken a Grade 11 healthcare course in which there was lots of content about different conditions, symptoms, and treatments. Thulashini found that by drawing out an avatar and illustrating how each symptom presents itself on the human body, she could better visualize the conditions and understand how to treat them.
What it does
Our website, Glucosense, is built for medical students to be exposed to real-life interactions in the healthcare environment while being able to actively learn content.
How we built it
We built Glucosense using an AI website building tool, v0, which help generate our ideas into a working app. It enabled us to convert our design concepts into a working application.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into has to do with building our website, as there were many bugs we had to fix. An example can be our human diagram, previously it was not visually aesthetic or functionable. Yet, with more prompts and brainstorming we were able to produce a better working human diagram. Another problem we encountered was that we were unable to use the chat feature, but with a little more experimenting with the website, we were able to get it to function.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An accomplishments that we're proud of is that we tried something new. All of our team members have never coded and most have not been in a hackathon. We are proud of doing something new outside of our comfort zone and of challenging ourselves to learn and adapt quickly to develop a working website.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how to build a website using AI-assisted development tools and deepened our understanding of Type 2 diabetes. We wish to further explore the intersection of healthcare and AI use in the future.
What's next for The Alpha Helices
We are hoping to improve our skillset by participating in more Hackathons. We are also looking forward to participating in more SHN events in the near future such as the Summer of Vibes, which will allow us to explore our interest in healthcare innovation.
