HipHop Vibe: Playful, competitive, high-energy, boastful.
I wanted to capture the ultimate "campus beef"—the playful, unspoken rivalry that exists between different college majors. The idea of "The Academic Rivals" was born from the relatable stereotypes of Computer Science, Business, and Art students. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to use AI to create a rap group with an authentic identity, complete with a hard-hitting diss track, a compelling backstory, and a professional visual aesthetic that lives in the world of a real band.
How I built it
I built everything end-to-end using strictly the allowed Google ecosystem.
- Band Identity & Brief: I started with Gemini Pro, prompting it to generate the creative lore for a three-member rap group, assign each member a unique "major-centric" nickname, and craft a witty rap chorus aimed at roasting the opposing academic departments.
- Audio Track: I took Gemini's lyrical concepts and fed them into Gemini Lyria to generate the musical foundation. I specified a 60-second, high-energy, fast-paced hip-hop diss track. Lyria successfully delivered two distinct vocalists going back and forth, backed by heavy 808 bass, perfectly matching my chosen vibe.
- Visual Poster: I turned to Nano Banana to bring my band to life visually. By prompting for a "professional band poster for a 90s-style hip-hop trio," I generated a striking, moody visual that featured my fictional crew members in a university setting.
- Final Pitch: I assembled the audio and the poster into the final 60-second live showcase, ready to present my complete band identity.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am incredibly proud that I managed to create a completely cohesive and functional brand identity—from music to visual art—in record time, solely using the provided AI tools.
- Generating a high-fidelity rap track in Lyria that actually sounded like two real people dissing each other.
- Designing a professional-grade band poster in Nano Banana that perfectly matched the grungy, nostalgic vibe of the audio track.
- Crafting a fun, engaging, and fully fleshed-out "campus beef" narrative that made the 60-second pitch feel less like a tech demo and more like an authentic musical performance.
What I learned
This hackathon taught me the sheer power of AI in rapid creative prototyping. I learned that prompt engineering is the new creative skill—specifying exact BPM, genre, and lyrical intensity in Lyria is crucial to getting the right sound. I also learned to work collaboratively across different AI mediums (text, audio, and image) to build a unified project. My biggest takeaway was how to synthesize different modalities: translating a vibe described in words (Gemini) into an audio track (Lyria) and finally into a matching visual piece (Nano Banana). It's clear that AI isn't just a tool for individual tasks, but a powerful creative ecosystem.
