Inspiration
The idea sparked from our day-to-day struggles as active students at Thapar University. We noticed how scattered and unorganized society updates, registrations, and event announcements were. Whether it was missing an exciting workshop or not knowing when a society was recruiting — students were constantly out of the loop. That’s when we thought: why not build a centralized hub for everything society-related?
What it does
Thapar Societies Hub is a one-stop platform for all student societies, clubs, and organizations at Thapar. It enables students to: Browse societies and join them through direct registration links Stay updated with upcoming events and announcements View details of each society (vision, activities, leads, etc.) News Board TIET Timeline which shows all upcoming events
How we built it
Frontend: HTML, CSS, TypeScript Backend: Supabase Hosting: Netlify for frontend deployment
Challenges we ran into
CMS without Plugins: Making the content editable and dynamic without WordPress or heavy CMS tools took time and logic structuring. Supabase Security Rules: Setting correct read/write access for different users was tricky but essential. UI Consistency: Ensuring a smooth, responsive experience across devices while keeping the design clean was a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Went from idea to live deployment within weeks Created a functional and scalable solution for real users Built a smooth user experience — both visually and technically Got great feedback from peers and society members
What we learned
Supabase is more than just a backend — it’s a full ecosystem that can power scalable apps. How vital UI/UX is for adoption — users stay when it feels smooth. That even without React or frameworks, powerful platforms can be built using Supabase.
What's next for Thapar Societies Hub
Event RSVP and calendar sync Push notifications for announcements Analytics dashboard for society heads Expanding to include departments and academic cells Launching a mobile app version for Android/iOS Open-sourcing the project so others can adapt it for their colleges
