Inspiration
We started off with the idea of a study buddy finder, but we realized we could expand the idea further to be more general. Sometimes immigrants need a translator for a single day, and other volunteer services don't easily cater to these short term needs.
What it does
People can post requests for volunteers. These requests include time commitment, frequency, location, skills/equipment needed, and a general description. Volunteers can accept these requests from a general page. Volunteer hours are tracked.
How we built it
We used javascript, node.js, html5 and css. Google Maps was used for location of requests.
Challenges we ran into
Three of our members had little to no experience in web development. It was challenging to figure out how to structure the site and how to deploy it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The design of the homepage is very clean.
What we learned
Making a website is harder than it seems.
