Inspiration

Most digital greeting cards today are flat, static images or cold, fully automated AI-generated graphics that lack genuine emotional warmth. I wanted to change that by leveraging web technology to empower human-led creativity, creating a warmer digital keepsake online.

What it does

Thank Cards is an intuitive, web-based platform that transforms traditional online messages into interactive, multimedia experiences. Users can choose templates or a blank canvas, enter the Full Edit Mode via a free account, manage layers, customize text/shapes, embed custom background music, and send animated cards with stunning 3D page-turning transitions. It also features a unique "Write Back" system allowing recipients to leave replies directly on the card.

How I built it

The platform is fully web-based and built from scratch. I utilized advanced HTML5 Canvas and timeline control frameworks to orchestrate nearly 70 unique animation effects across 10 categories. For the visual core, I implemented CSS3 and WebGL shaders to handle smooth, immersive 3D transitions like Cube, Coverflow, and Flip. Additionally, I built a secure authentication and user dashboard layer to store user progress and manage custom media assets.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest hurdle was cross-device performance optimization. Rendering complex 3D page-turning animations smoothly alongside multi-layer multimedia timelines on both low-end mobile browsers and high-res desktops required intense debugging of render loops, layout calculations, and memory usage.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of successfully spending six months independently engineering a stable, highly interactive multimedia canvas from scratch as a solo developer, and successfully implementing a fluid two-way interaction system ("Write Back") that bridges the distance between senders and recipients.

What I learned

I deeply mastered the art of balancing rich 3D visuals with quick web loading performance. I also learned how crucial a centralized user dashboard is for protecting user progress and managing complex template timelines.

What's next for Thank Cards

I am looking forward to receiving raw feedback from global makers to further optimize the rendering engine. My next steps involve adding more custom corporate templates, finer typography controls, and expanding the multimedia asset library.
