Title Thala Connect AI is an AI-powered blood coordination platform for Thalassemia patients. It automates donor matching and emergency blood alerts using web and WhatsApp interfaces, combining AI, multilingual support, and real-time notifications. This solution was built specifically for the Blood Warriors Hackathon.
Target Problem Statement Thalassemia patients often face critical delays in receiving compatible blood. Current systems involve manual coordination, limited access to real-time donor availability, poor donor retention during off-peak seasons, and gaps in patient education across different languages. Although the Blood Bridge model has helped, it still heavily relies on human intervention during emergencies.
Proposed Solution Thala Connect AI is an integrated platform that leverages WhatsApp and web apps to match blood requests with nearby, eligible donors using AI-powered algorithms. It sends instant alerts for emergencies, predicts donor engagement, tracks donation history, and offers a multilingual education hub for patients and caregivers. It also integrates with e-RaktKosh to provide real-time access to government databases and scales the Blood Bridge model into a fully automated, intelligent coordination network.
Technology Stack The solution uses React (Vite) and Tailwind CSS for the frontend, along with Shadcn UI for components. The backend logic is powered by Lovable-generated APIs and custom endpoints. OpenAI GPT powers the chatbot, and Azure Speech SDK enables voice input. Firebase handles authentication, while Azure SQL Database is used for storage. Hosting is managed via Azure App Service. Stripe supports crowdfunding functionality, and real-time alerts are sent through Twilio WhatsApp API and Azure Notification Hubs. Power BI is used for analytics, and multilingual support is enabled using GPT with Azure Translator API and i18n.
Functionality Thala Connect AI includes a WhatsApp and web-based chatbot that supports smart donor matching, multilingual auto-replies, and voice input. Emergency blood request alerts are triggered instantly and sent to nearby donors. The platform has role-specific flows for donors, patients, admins, and doctors, each with tailored dashboards. Donors receive badges and track impact, while admins can verify cases and monitor system-wide trends. Doctors can provide medical advice, and a multilingual knowledge hub is available in six languages to educate users.
Impact The platform reduces emergency wait time by automating donor notifications and predicting future donor engagement. It lightens the manual burden for organizations like Blood Warriors by automating the coordination process. It enhances patient education and donor motivation through gamified experiences and multilingual content. Thala Connect AI enables scalable, nationwide deployment of the Blood Bridge model with improved retention and real-time data.
Challenges and Risks Key challenges include potential gaps in donor availability, which are mitigated by predictive engagement and gamification. API limitations are addressed by using WhatsApp and SMS fallback options. Data privacy is ensured via Firebase Auth and secure Azure SQL workflows. Integrating voice input may introduce technical complexity, which is managed with Azure Speech SDK and text fallback. For rural accessibility, a mobile-first, lightweight UI is implemented with vernacular support.
Assumptions The solution assumes that users (donors and patients) have access to smartphones and WhatsApp. It also assumes that Firebase and Azure services remain operational throughout development. Blood Warriors and other NGOs are expected to collaborate on user onboarding. GPT is used only for general guidance and not clinical advice. Stripe or Razorpay will be used for safe crowdfunding.
Timeline During the 24-hour hackathon, the team aims to deliver a working chatbot MVP on WhatsApp and web, with donor-patient matching and role-based flows. In the first two weeks post-hackathon, they plan to finalize multilingual content, donor impact tracking, and gamification. In months one to two, they will integrate crowdfunding and a mock e-RaktKosh API. By month three, the platform will be piloted in a district with full voice support and NGO collaboration.
