Imagine this:
Riya, a 12-year-old with transfusion-dependent Thalassemia, checks her "SmartMatch" app one afternoon. Instead of worrying about finding a donor at the last minute, she sees a clear forecast: "On July 22, between 10 AM-2 PM, we expect 8 potential O+ donors within 10 km of Hyderabad.". She taps "Request Match," and within seconds, two nearby donors confirm their availability. No more worried calls, no more last-minute scrambles.
THALA - THE SMART MATCH is an AI-powered application designed to streamline the blood donation and transfusion process for Thalassemia patients. It tackles the critical challenge of finding compatible blood donors in a timely manner by moving from a reactive to a proactive system.
Key functionalities of the project include:
AI-Powered Forecasting: The application uses a time-series model to predict the daily availability of donors categorized by blood group and location. This forecast is built by analyzing historical donor logs and live data feeds from sources like e-RaktKosh.
Smart Matchmaking: A patient can input their required transfusion date and location, and the system's algorithm will suggest the most suitable nearby donors.
Automated Outreach: Once a potential match is identified, the system automates communication by sending invites and confirmation requests to donors via WhatsApp and SMS.
Community Engagement: The platform features a dashboard with a "Heroboard," a leaderboard that celebrates frequent donors to improve retention and build a strong community.
Built with a tech stack including Python, scikit-learn for machine learning, and Streamlit for the web application, the project's primary goal is to reduce the last-minute struggle for patients, shorten wait times, and increase the reliability and retention of blood donors.
