Inspiration

We noticed many students in under-resourced communities lacked access to quality writing tools and guidance. Textura was created to provide an accessible, interactive platform for improving writing skills anywhere.

What it does

Textura offers a lightweight browser-based editor with AI-powered suggestions. Users can accept or reject edits, ask questions via chat, and improve grammar, clarity, and style both online and offline.

How we built it

We developed Textura using React with a WYSIWYG editor, integrated Gemini AI through a secure backend, and used LocalStorage for offline persistence. Iterative testing ensured usability, performance, and accessibility for all learners.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing AI functionality with simplicity, designing an intuitive interface, and ensuring offline usability were major challenges. Iterative testing and user feedback helped us refine the platform for optimal learning experiences.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a fully interactive editor with AI suggestions that works seamlessly offline and online. Textura empowers students to improve writing skills independently while maintaining full control over edits.

What we learned

We learned the importance of designing lightweight, accessible tools, securing AI integrations, and creating interfaces that clearly communicate suggested changes to foster learning effectively.

What's next for Textura

Future plans include multilingual support, version tracking, enhanced AI feedback, and partnerships with NGOs and schools to expand access, ensuring the platform reaches more under-resourced learners globally.
