Inspiration

I learned a lot that day about what it's like to live with both major and minor disabilities and the hardships faced because of them. This inspired the Font Change Feature. I was inspired to make the translate feature by my grandparents in India. They can't speak english and I thought an app that can translate text from images could help them a lot.")

What it does

First, is the text recognizer which uses machine learning to identify text in images and allows the user to copy the text to their clipboard and use it with other features in the app. Other features are language translation into several languages, text to speech, and a font change designed to make text more dyslexia-friendly.")

How I built it

markdown = Redcarpet.new("TextSlate is a multiplatform mobile app built using flutter designed to make information more accessible with an easy and pleasant user experience. I used Android Studio and Flutter to build it. I chose flutter because it is an open source toolkit that allows you to write code once and run on multiple platforms for the widest reach possible. Flutter was effective at helping me achieve my goal of helping the most people possible. I also used several google APIs. The main APIs I used were Firebase ML Vision, Flutter Text to Speech, and finally the Google translate API.")

Challenges I ran into

markdown = Redcarpet.new("I originally started off with xcode. It was really hard for me to incorporate Firebase and I eventually decided to move to using Android Studio code. It also took me a while to get comfortable using dart which is the language used by Flutter.")
