Inspiration
One of the biggest problems for students at UCSD is commuting. Missing a bus often meant missing your class. We want to have a way to check the bus schedules easily.
What it does
Texting the bus route and stop gives the user a time estimate of the next two buses.
How we built it
- Retrieve and analyze data from San Diego MTS in Python
- Use the Twilio Messaging API to manage functions related to texting
- Built a website for looking up bus routes and stops
- Built basic RESTful API in Python to send data about bus routes and stops.
- Combine Python and AngularJS to implement the search function on the website
Challenges we ran into
- Figuring out how to host our website and service with AWS
- Little, unexpected bugs here and there
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We completed all functions we intended to implement
What we learned
- Frameworks including AngularJS and Flask
- How to host websites on AWS
- RESTful APIs
What's next for TextMeBuss
- Optimizing estimations
