๐ Inspiration As TYBSc Computer Science students, we often struggle to find textbooks, reference material, and past year resources in one place. Searching online is time-consuming, and sometimes the links are broken or unsafe. We wanted to build a simple, fast, and reliable web app that gives students quick access to the textbooks they need without hassle.
๐ What it does TextbookMate is a web-based application that allows TYBSc CS students to:
๐ Browse & Download textbooks organized by subject ๐ Quick search for specific books. ๐ Access PDFs in a single click without dealing with broken links.
๐ ๏ธ How we built it Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript for a simple and user-friendly UI. Backend: itโs static Deployment: Hosted on Netlify
โก Challenges we ran into Finding a reliable way to host and serve PDFs without broken links. Designing a minimal but intuitive UI for fast access. Managing time alongside academics to get the project working end-to-end. Deploying the app online so that everyone can access it.
๐ Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a working solution that actually helps classmates save time. Learned how to host and deploy a web app. Created a clean and simple design that makes resources easily accessible. Received positive feedback from peers who tested it.
๐ What we learned How to go from an idea โ functional web app. Basics of frontend Hosting and deployment challenges. Importance of UX (user experience) when designing tools for students.
๐ฎ Whatโs next for TextbookMate Adding login & personalization (so students can bookmark favorite books). Expanding to other semesters and courses. Integrating AI-based search (e.g., โfind me all books on Data Structuresโ). Adding notes & past year papers in addition to textbooks. Making it a mobile app for easier access.
