Inspiration
Students across the nation each semester buy or rent used textbooks from campus bookstores or online services such as Amazon. Students rarely have the opportunity to directly exchange textbooks with one another. Our idea came forth from this lack of service for simply trading textbook for textbook, cutting out the middle man.
What it does
Textbook trader is a Java applet built to be imbedded in our website link. Currently the website and application aren't live as we have just built a prototype applet given the time constraints on this project. Our applet serves as a login based service that allows students to browse textbooks listed by other users and exchange their own textbooks for the ones listed.
How I built it
We built our project in Java using Netbeans 8.2. Our group utilized the Derby database for SQL scripts.
Challenges I ran into
We ran into multiple challenges. One of our biggest issues was using github for sharing code. None of the group members had much experience with github.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud of the our project and hope it can serve as a prototype for others to build and expand upon.
What I learned
We feel we learned how to work as a group efficiently.
What's next for Textbook Trader
For the future we hope to expand further on our website and potentially have it up and running by next year.
