Inspiration
I've always thought textbooks were a bit rubbish. Don't get me wrong, I love a good textbook. But sometimes it seems like the creators don't have the same interests as I do. They litter the pages with... hockey references??? and include strange impractical sections on how to run physics experiments they know I don't have time for. I wanted to make my own textbook and fix education for good but I knew I had no chance of getting it printed to I thought to just leave it digital. That was when I realized that no longer had to be a textbook. A pdf has many limitations. No videos, no interaction... No. My textbook wouldn't be some pdf, it would be a website!
What it does
This website allows users to easily create, edit, and share their own digital textbooks!
How I built it
Python, Flask, SQLite3, HTML, CSS
Challenges I ran into
I was working by myself so you might say I was "tight on time."
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm glad I pushed myself to use SQL instead of using a CSV file cause using a CSV file would have been easier but also would take more memory (I believe).
What I learned
I learned more about SQL and also that I probably shouldn't have had a "good nights rest" right as the Hack-a-thon began... because now I have to stay up finishing it on Sunday. So I'll be SUPER tire for Monday.
What's next for Textbook but a website
- Transfer database to MySQL
- Add an account system
- Add drag and drop functionality
- Make it look nice
