Inspiration

The idea for this project stemmed from the need to make communication smoother and more adaptable across different contexts. From formal business emails to friendly messages, finding the right words and tone can be challenging. This Text Recommendation Chrome Extension leverages Google Chrome built-in AI to offer context-sensitive recommendations right within the browser, making it an ideal tool for professionals and casual users alike.

What it does

The Text Recommendation Extension assists users in crafting the perfect message by providing tailored wording and tone suggestions. Users simply copy their text, paste it into the extension’s side panel, and click "Submit" to receive AI-generated recommendations. The tool then offers suggestions in various styles—such as "Formal," "Friendly," or "Concise"—to help users communicate more effectively across different contexts, making it versatile for both personal and professional needs.

How we built it

This extension was built using a combination of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, integrating Google Chrome's built-in AI capabilities. Through Google Chrome's built-in AI, we developed functions that allow the extension to analyze and generate text suggestions based on user inputs. The extension’s interface is designed to be intuitive and seamlessly integrates into the Chrome browser.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was optimizing the response time for recommendations, ensuring users receive suggestions quickly without slowing down their workflow. Additionally, integrating the AI in a way that ensures privacy and accuracy required extensive testing and refining.
