Inspiration: as a newly single young adult , I returned back to treacherous sea of online dating. While flattered by the large amount of interest in my profile, it was difficult for me to filter out the time wasters from the Prince Charming. Dating in general can sometimes feel like searching for a needle in a hay stack but with online dating Everything moves so fast. Some matches made it clear they wanted consistent communication and to have a first meet within 48hrs! So there was potential to miss out on a really good match while entertaining someone else that is not so worth it?
What it does: My AI chat bot will take text input explanations of the current dating situation between you and your current romantic interest (you can be very detailed as if you were talking to a friend or someone you trust). The bot will then assess if the situation between you and your crush is going well and if you should continue perusing the person, or if it’s best for you to move on and consider a new situation with someone else better suited for you!
How we built it: I built this concept using my own text prompt into the AWS Partyrock generative AI. It only requires two text inputs for the AI chat bot to start giving their opinion
Challenges we ran into: some responses were very vague if you weren’t comfortable providing detailed context..the bot will assume it’s too early to make any preconceived judgement and will tell you to keep perusing unless there is any huge red flag or cause for concern.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: The chat bot is very impressive. It can deliver constructive criticism in a positive way and ultimately has the users best interest in mind. I asked the bot where it gets its advice from and the information is backed by well known relationship psychologist as well as less formal routes like relationship subreddits and other permitted sources.
It will straight up tell you I don’t think this is a good idea and to value self respect Which is good for people with anxious attachment or avoidant attachment dating styles. You get a respectful straight cut answer, no room for doubt or judgement.
What we learned: we learned that the bot can also change its opinion when provided with new information and can also learn more about the users preferences as it provides new advice.
What's next for Text or Next ?
It is my hope that it can be adopted by popular dating apps that are already using AI to consider compatibility. I hope that it can also be a safe space for people to navigate the complexities of dating and forming new relationships in general, not just romantic ones.
