People are distracted while texting and often run into people

What it does

This sensor mounts to the back of the phone and it utilizes a PING sensor and alerts the user of iminant collision.

How I built it

We used the Arduino UNO board, programmed it using C++, and used a PING distance sensor. The alert comes out of an attached speaker and the tone speeds up the closer a person is to the user. We attached all the components to the phone using a 3d printed designed clip along with plastic packing straps, bamboo, wire, electrical tape, and superglue.

Challenges I ran into

Initially we wanted to program an app that would interact with the Arduino UNO but we ran into trouble with the interface so we decided to do a physical notification instead.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We used the resources we had available to accomplish our project. It works!

What I learned

Always keep a hardware store in your backpack, it comes in very handy.

What's next for text collision averter

Shrinking it to a smaller, more manageable size.
