Inspiration As AI agents move from simple chatbots to handling real business operations, they are being granted access to emails, files, databases, and internal systems. Yet most companies have no way to define clear limits on what an agent should never do. We saw a growing gap between AI capabilities and AI governance, and wanted to create a solution that allows businesses to benefit from AI automation without sacrificing security, accountability, or trust.

What it does Tether is a governance and access-control platform for AI agents. It allows businesses to define guardrails before granting permissions, ensuring agents cannot perform prohibited actions. Every agent operates in a sandboxed environment, receives scoped access instead of standing credentials, and is tied to both the agent identity and the employee who deployed it. Tether provides customizable risk settings, agent-specific policies, and comprehensive activity logs so businesses can safely deploy AI agents while maintaining accountability.

How we built it We designed Tether as a web-based dashboard where administrators can create agent profiles, configure guardrails, assign permissions, and monitor activity. Using Lovable for rapid prototyping, we built workflows for denylist-first policy creation, agent onboarding, risk-tolerance configuration, and audit logging. The platform simulates secure token issuance, sandboxed execution environments, and real-time monitoring to demonstrate how AI actions would be controlled in production.

Challenges we ran into One of our biggest challenges was balancing security with usability. Enterprise governance platforms are often complex and require dedicated security teams, but we wanted Tether to be accessible to mid-size businesses without extensive technical resources. Another challenge was translating advanced security concepts such as scoped credentials, sandboxing, and agent attribution into an intuitive user experience that could be understood quickly during a demo.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud of creating a solution that addresses one of the biggest barriers to enterprise AI adoption: trust. We successfully designed a guardrails-first workflow, implemented customizable risk controls, and created a clear accountability system that connects every action to both an AI agent and the employee responsible for deploying it. Most importantly, we transformed a complex cybersecurity problem into an intuitive platform that businesses can easily understand and use.

What we learned Through this project, we learned that securing AI systems requires more than monitoring outputs—it requires controlling permissions, defining boundaries, and establishing accountability. We also gained insight into the rapidly emerging field of AI governance and learned how enterprise security principles such as least-privilege access, sandboxing, and auditability can be adapted specifically for AI agents.

What's next for Tether Our next step is moving from simulated controls to production-grade security infrastructure. We plan to implement cryptographic agent identities, real-time policy enforcement, advanced anomaly detection, and integrations with enterprise tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, and Salesforce. Long term, we envision Tether becoming the standard governance layer that organizations use to securely manage and scale AI agents across their operations.
