Inspiration
The first wall of security to any site is passwords and the easiest one to bypass. Having said that it is crucial to secure it as much as we can so we tried to implement a way to add an extra layer of security to the passwords that get generated.
What it does
Our project does that to an extent where we give certain rules to the users when creating passwords which they have to fulfill in order for the password to be secure and usable. Here, we have introduced 13 rules, where apart from the fundamental rules like an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a special character, etc., there are rules like adding today's Wordle puzzle answer, adding a hex color code, etc.
How we built it
We started with the basic front-end HTML part which is static. We added styles to the HTML elements using SCSS. SCSS also helped in dynamically assigning the styles. The main logic is coded in JavaScript where we check the user entered password against all the rules and dynamically display the rules to the user.
Challenges we ran into
Major roadblocks were to figure out a way to integrate multiple rules to be satisfied at the same time which we feel like we did to a certain degree. Moreover, the logic for check the rules when the user erases or deletes or replaces some part of the password was quite challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to build a website that provides a pretty strong password even if half the rules of this game are followed.
What we learned
We have learned about front-end web development, gained confidence in logic building, and now we know how to create a strong password.
What's next for test
For the future, we can always add additional rules and make the passwords more complex, maybe encrypt the password after to make it harder to hack and so on. Also, with respect to UI, we could have displayed the rules in a way that a new rule will always be displayed on top of other rules.
