Inspiration

Voice recognition provides a seamless interface to interact with Snapchat Lens. Given that this capability is super fast on Snapchat, we decided to provide the ultimate Quiz styled experience. Also, Snapchat Lenses are mostly visually oriented i.e geared towards Visuals and haptic and body gestures. We challenge this assumption with this Snapchat Lens - by utilizing voice-based inputs.

What it does

The lens elevates the usual quiz-styled experience. The user can hear the question and would be presented with the answer options. The user has to say out loud what they think the right option would be. The voice recognition system attempts to recognize the answer enunciated by the user. If the answer is right - the user would see confetti and move towards the next question.

How we built it

We created voiceovers for the questions - so that users can hear the questions. The options are displayed at the bottom of the screen. The user can say the right answer out loud to register the answer; before the timer ends. The voice recognition system recognises the voices and evaluates them against the options integrated into the Lens. If the answer is right the Lens shows celebratory confetti;

Challenges we ran into

The voice recognition system had to be turned off whilst the question voiceover was played out loud. We had to systematically and programmatically turn ON and turn OFF the voice recognition functionality; Whilst the question voiceover was played out - we turned OFF the recognition functionality and turned ON the recognition functionality whilst the options were displayed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A seamless visual and voice enable quiz-style Lens that adds another dimension to typical Quiz-styled lenses with gestures (tapping and head movements).

What's next

The next step for this lens would be to include vernaculars and languages. We can include different languages for the voice recognition system. This would enable a wider audience to engage with this style of quiz.
