Inspiration
CMG's 1st Hackathon had 2 prompts: build an app to aid in the entertainment/events sector for NOLA, or create an app that will benefit the community or government of NOLA. The competition had 2 level to compete at: a fully-completed build or a working prototype.
Devastating hurricanes in Houston and Florida caused numerous casualties due to cars being swept away by flood waters. Coupled with NOLA's history for hurricanes (Katrina), we wanted to make an app to assist users in making better decisions during disaster situations.
What it does
Our team selected the 2nd prompt and decide to create a mockup for an iOS app that would identify objects in frame and then simulate a car utilizing ARKit in iOS 11+ to help the user decide if their car will get swept away by flood waters.
How I built it
Since we decided to create a prototype we built artboards using Adobe XD.
Challenges I ran into
This was pretty ambitious for us since neither of us had ever attended a hackathon before this and had never created mockups of our own.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
-We completed our prototype and presentation in time for judging.
What I learned
We literally learned how to use Adobe XD over the course of a weekend, how to pitch/demo our project before judges, and how to validate our ideas.
What's next for Test the Waters
One of the mentors at the event is a Sr. Engineer with Mathworks and has offered to help mentor us to fully create this application in RL. So, our next step is a working build. :)
