ReVamp Project Board with Flask

This is a project for the Project Board ReVamp Challenge for WinHacks 2022. Our team is creating a project using a Python-Flask sever running on a Google Cloud Platform VM.

Inspiration

This project is a stepping stone for me to test out UI development using Python-Flask. I would like to create a beautifully designed intuitive layout for the Revamp of the Project Board.

What it does

Our team project, in it's current state, lets the Partners connect with Students who are eager to join them. There are different roles that people can join into:

  • Have access to create, edit and delete projects.
  • Once approved they can select candidates who applied. Students
  • Have access to view approved projects.
  • Can select projects that listed and create applications for the same. Administrators
  • Currently only view submitted projects.
  • They can manually accept a project or reject with a specified reason. ___ ## How we built it Our team's implementation of this project is a Python-Flask sever that uses sever side rendering and SQLite for database storage.

There is a login page for Administrators, Partners and Students. Currently there is only sign in page for Partners and Students.

Challenges we ran into

Due to the limited time many features that we brainstormed were left in the drawing board. One of the main ones were Notification, which are an important aspect for functioning of the Admins who over see this operation.

At the end, we could only implement the login feature and registration of Partners and Students only due to difficulty in getting the separate registrations working through flask-login module.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

At least we have made an app that has a working database to store all the incoming registration request and can log them in the future.

What we learned

In-hind sight, our team should have focused on creating a web pages that shows the necessary UI instead of creating the DB model in SQLite and its associated login.

What's next for our Revamp Project Board?

Unimplemented: Pages for accepting forms necessary to populated the database.
Features to be implemented (This was at the beginning at least)

  1. Some sign-up procedure for Administrators that is verifiable.
  2. Add more details such as profile photo uploads, project videos, markdown editor
  3. Notification (Push notification, email servers, etc.)
