Inspiration

We love our pets, and we hope they could stay healthy as much as possible. If they're not so willing, we'd love to help them, at least in a game.

What it does

In the game, you could press the left button and the right button to guide the car to roll his/her fitball. Each roll could burn some calories. The timing and direction of the roll are important. You need to wait for the cat to finish the current roll before asking him/her to start the next roll. Otherwise, the cat's mood score will decrease. Also, you need to make sure the direction is correct. If the cat stops on the left but you still ask him/her to roll left, this mood score will decrease as well. If the mood score is getting lower and lower to a certain level, the cat will take a break from the workout for seconds. The time is set at two minutes. Let’s see how many calories you could help the cat burn. Do your best!

How we built it

We started with ideas and concepts. At the beginning, we only decided to do pet-related. After trying a lot of different settings and gameplay, we finally settled on the current plan and details. We first realized the basic gameplay, and then continued to enrich the details of the gameplay to make it more interesting. We handled switching between different animation clips through an animation mixer. Also, we used a lot of Behavior and Tween scripts to control the prompts in the game to enhance the interactive experience.

Challenges we ran into

There were some challenges when we did the animation switching. We hope Lens Studio could provide an animation blending function, which can mix part of the animation to make the animation transition more natural when switching from one clip to another.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This game provides a relatively complete game experience and rich interactive experience. Also, it provides a new way to interact with pets.

What we learned

At the beginning of a project, it is important to take the time to fully validate the idea, rather than rushing to work on it. Because sometimes, you spend a lot of time completing assets that you end up finding that don't fit in the game. Or after starting production you find that you need to modify the design, resulting in a lot of work that needs to be redone.

What's next for Cat Workout

We plan to continue to improve the gameplay and polish assets.
